CAPPELLA DELLE STIMMATE
In fondo al corridoio una breve scalinata ci fa scendere in quello che è considerato il luogo che esprime il massimo della sacralità della Verna: la Cappella delle Stimmate. Questa fu fatta costruire nel 1263 dai Conti Guidi nel punto esatto dove San Francesco aveva ricevuto le stimmate il 17 settembre del 1224. Oltre che di fede, la cappella è anche luogo d’arte. Come ci mostra la foto, qui è conservata la più grande terracotta invetriata realizzata da Andrea Della Robbia: una crocefissione di metri 5,65 x 4,20. Realizzata nel 1481 è composta di settecentoventi pezzi.
