THE PLAIN OF CAMPALDINO
You can here see the view of the Poppi hill from north, coming from high Casentino and exactly from the Plain of Campaldino. This place was the scene of the Campaldino battle that took place on June 11th 1289 between the Ghibelline troops from Arezzo and the Guelph troops from Florence. It was a fierce clash in which the Florentines won. A large model that reproduces the troop deployments in the Battle of Campaldino is exhibited in the Poppi Castle. Observe it.
